This
large weatherboard house had severly flaking windows and rusty
hinges. The weatherboards were in reasonable condition and some
weatherboards at the back were new from a recent extension.
All
the windows were taken out of the frames, stripped, undercoated,
painted and had new brass hinges fitted. Many of the putty lines
on the windows were cracked and falling out so the old putty was
gutted, the glass removed, the rebates cleaned out and primed
and then the window was reglazed.
Whilst
the window sashes were being attended to, another team member
was stripping the window frames, sanding and priming. The inside
of the window is masked off with plastic film to prevent any dust
from getting inside.
The
chimney had significant mould and lichen which was cleaned up
at the same time as the house wash down prior to painting. Firstly
sprayed with a solution of sodium hyperchlorite to get rid of
any mould and mildew and then scrubbed down thoroughly with hard
bristle brushes. Any cracks were then filled and primed and two
new top coats of paint gave it a stunning new look.
The
weatherboards were painted in Resene Sonyx 101 Satin finish -
colour Geyser and the windows were painted in Resene Lustacryl
Waterborne Enamel - colour Double Alabaster. The front and back
doors were painted in Resene Lustacryl - colour Pohutakawa.
The
garage was unpainted fibreboard and battens which was primed and
painted to match the house in Sonyx 101 - geyser.
